Lady Liberty
Wake me in the morning; the sunlight on the bed.
The children rise to dress, while I make homemade bread.
Feed the animals with love on this blessed day;
Fetch a pail of water, then send you on your way.
There is more than one way to get things done.
Break the chains of slavery, one by one.
If you’re weary and if you’re poor.
I’ll light the lamp beside your golden door.
Tend to the garden, hang the clothes to dry,
Sweep the house and then prepare an apple pie.
The noon-day sun makes its plans and calls me into town
To pay a visit to a friend who’s feeling down.
There is more than one way to get things done.
Break the chains of slavery, one by one.
If you’re weary and if you’re poor.
I’ll light the lamp beside your golden door.
After dinner, clean up and put away;
Stoke the fire, draw a bath and heal the day.
By candle light you play a tune while I quilt and mend.
We read a book then all too soon, it’s time for bed.
There is more than one way to get things done.
Break the chains of slavery, one by one.
If you’re weary and if you’re poor.
I’ll light the lamp beside your golden door.
I’ll light the lamp beside your golden door.
