Fire!

I just put my Gu in my mouth,
Espresso Love—2x caffeine.
This was at 5:30 am, 10 minutes
before my wave, Wave 3.
I'm pumped!
Mile 10—I'm in The Zone
with a 7:15 min/mile pace.
Mile 26—No, I didn't
pee my pants. That was
electrolyte drink mix
that I spilled all over
myself somewhere
along the way—totally
missed my mouth!
That Yoga mudra,
thumb-to-index finger,
just felt so good at the
time. I was imagining
my Higher Self was
sitting at the finish line,
reeling me in with a
line connected to my
heart...keep drawing
nearer.
I'm in the Finish zone
and I was digging deep
over the last two miles.
I was definitely going to
qualify for the Boston
Marathon with a time
under 3:20 but could I
beat my personal goal
of running under 3:15?
If it was going to be, I
could not let up the
least bit.
Make it so!
3:14:31
Personally, the
previous two months
were emotionally
charged and running
was a great way to
process and be
connected.
I would like to thank
my friends in the
Truckee Running
Club for their support
this summer.
Thanks to my hosts, Scott & Lisa, and the volunteers
and organizers who made that marathon happen. That
was the most satisfying run of my life...so far!
Air!
Earth!
Water!
There's mud in your eye!
Sorry guys, the event I did in Bear
Valley, NorCal, on October, 2010,
wasn't that tough. It was more fun than
anything! The cold water was the worst—
SHOCKING!
However, some of the other events
elsewhere across the country looked like
they had some more challenging
elements.
I'm skipping the World's Toughest in
New Jersey this December...
Cold...
cold...
cold...
cold!
It nearly sucked my shoes right off my feet!
Look! I'm flying!
I'm not even touching the ground!
I'm levitating! Om shanti!
Where are the flaming bales of hay?!
...And the mystery obstacle was...
...drink a shot of hot sauce! If
they only had that when we came
out of the pond.
Lake Tahoe Marathon, 2009
Inspired by the headwinds on the exposed hills of Rubicon Point and Emerald Bay, I understood that
to quantify the experience is trivial. What is important is the quality with which I summon the Life
Force to move me through the experience. I ask myself "How well am I allowing the Qi to flow right
now, or am I resisting my experience?" I'm allowing it to flow. Let it flow...and bring it on!
...No, this was the best run of my life, so far...
